Goodmon Award PDF Print E-mail

The Tenth Annual Goodmon Awards, presented by Carolina Hurricanes and Compuware recognized regional leaders who have made major contributions to the success of the Research Triangle Region in five categories;  Community Service, Economic Development, Arts/Entertainment/Sports, GoodmonFellow (Leadership Triangle Alumni) and Strategic Partnership. The Triangle Greenways Council received the award for Economic Development.  This all volunteer organization is the only one in the Triangle dedicated solely to greenways at the local and regional level.

The Council is responsible for the preservation of hundreds of acres of undeveloped land and for the development of hundreds of miles of greenways and trails. The leaders, supporters and volunteers of the Triangle Greenways Council will have even more to be proud of in the coming year.  Local governments will fill the missing links to create a continuous greenway network from Clayton to Durham; with connections through Raleigh and Cary and with interconnections to MMorrisville, Wake Forest and Knightdale.

This development is the culmination of the Triangle Greenways Council's 30-year quest to transition the region from no greenways in the 1970s to an interconnected system of regional greenways. Recognizing The Triangle Greenways Council with the award for Economic Development confirms that greenways are a part of the Triangle regions competitive advantage as one of the country's most desirable places to live, work and play. The Honorable Jim Hunt opened the event and assisted with the awards as the evening progresses. This evening of high energy, high tech and tradition is the fundraiser for Leadership Triangle, a 20-year old organization that has already developed over 600 regional leaders.
